Cleaner Wrasse
Scientific Name: Labroides dimidiatus
Location and Habitat: the Cleaner Wrasse is distributed in the Pacific and Indian Oceans. Cleaner Wrasse seem to prefer living in coral reefs (where there are many fish to clean).
Diet: Cleaner Wrasse eat the parasites that are found on other fish that they are cleaning. These parasitesare not good for other fish so the Cleaner Wrasse cleans the parasites off and in return gets a meal.
Predators: Cleaner Wrasse have absolutely no predators. Due to their role in the ocean, predators, that usually eat fish about that size, need to be cleaned and without the Cleaner Wrasse that wouldn’t happen.
Human Interaction: currently there is no interaction between humans and Cleaner Wrasse, but if pollution starts to reach extreme circumstances then coral reefs will be effected and that would harm the Cleaner Wrasses’ home.
Colour and Characteristics: The Cleaner Wrasse is mostly pale blue with horizontal black stripes. It is small in size but is needed very much in the ocean. Without these little creatures there would be a rapid decrease in sea life. Cleaner Wrasse eat parasites found on the outside and the mouth of other fish. Parasites are not good for sea creatures so that is where the Cleaner Wrasse comes in. These fish are quite daring as they go through the mouths of some very big predators (Moray
Eels, Sharks, etc).
