Nudibranch
Scientific name: Nudibranchia
Location and Habitat: the Nudibranch is found in all oceans and seas except the icy waters near the polar regions. Nudibranchs live at almost all depths of salt water, but reach their biggest size and variation in warm, shallow waters.
Diet: the Nudibranch is carnivorous and consumes algae, ascidians, corals, zoanthids, sea pens, sea urchins, sea sponges, sea anemones, corals, barnacles, other Nudibranchs and other creatures’ eggs.
Predators: Green Wrasse, Yellow Coris Wrasse and other Nudibranchs.
Human interaction: similar to that of The Flower Hat Jelly, Nudibranchs are being greatly affected by pollution. Because they live in fairly shallow waters, these creatures would be one of the first to be affected by any pollution to reach the water. Even though they are not endangered, it is not good for them to be so close other wise they will end up endangered.
Weight and Length: Nudibranchs can be from 0.25 to 12 inches (6 mm to 31 cm). Their maximum weight is 3.3 lbs (1.5 kg)
Colour and Characteristics: Nudibranchs can come in all shapes, colours and sizes.Because there are over 3000 different types of Nudibranchs I will name some of the different characteristics:
-Feathery finnssticking out from the top of their heads
-Stingers (from eating sea anemones and sea urchins)
-Flappy wing-like rims
-A rough tongue (redula) that has specially adapted ‘teeth’ that deal with it’s prey
- All Nudibranchs are simultaneous hermaphrodites which means they are both male and female.
